Henleaze year fivers celebrate Portugal

Henleaze year fivers celebrate their relationship with Porto wearing Portugal colours.

The twinship between Bristol, England, and Porto, Portugal, is a special one for me, not least because Porto is the city I am lucky enough to live in, and Bristol is the wonderful city I lived in through most of my school days. The Bristol Oporto Association is proud of its links to Portugal’s second city and proud of the fact that England and Portugal still boast the oldest surviving treaty in the world.

Porto’s municipality was pleased recently to share news of activities at Henleaze Junior School, where year five pupils dressed up in Portugal’s colours, learned to count in Portuguese and enjoyed a few days of learning about Portuguese culture and history.

Henleaze Junior School was pleased to learn about “Azulejos” (traditional painted tiles) and sample some biscuits brought in by one of the Portuguese parents.

The Bristol Oporto Association is worth looking up if you are in Bristol and want to get to know others with links to Porto and Portugal in general.
