Portugal is famous for golf, but mostly for the Algarve - with world-class courses down there attracting many tourists. Less well known are the golf courses in the Cascais and Estoril area and perhaps the best source of information about these is the Estoril Golf Tours website.
From Cascais, you are within easy reach of the beachside challenge of Praia d’El Rey, the sumptuous luxury of Quinta da Marinha or the mountainous terrain of Penha Longa.
These three courses are a small selection of the many in the area. EGT covers courses in Óbidos, Tróia and other areas. Montado is in an open setting but it is a challenge, with lots of water and greens with bunkers. That course is close to ancient cork forests.
Quinta da Marinha
A fairly flat combination of park and heathland, Quinta da Marinha enjoys views of Serra da Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Atlantic Ocean. Designed by Robert Trent Jones senior, the Championship course has played host to the PGA Masters & Ladies Seniors.
Ranked in the top 30 courses within continental Europe, the Atlantic course has played host to the Portuguese Open on 3 occasions.
Praia d’El Rey
Praia d’el Rey represents a unique blend of links with high undulating dunes together with sandy heathland and mature Pine forest. A course of contrasts, from inland wooded parkland holes to the rugged sandy shoreline of the Atlantic.
